In a significant step toward expanding voter accessibility, Woodland Community College (WCC), in partnership with Yolo County Elections and the League of Women Voters, is proud to announce the unveiling of a new permanent ballot drop box at the Woodland campus. This initiative is aimed at providing easier and more convenient access for students, staff, and the community to securely submit their vote-by-mail ballots during local, state, and national elections.

Event Details:

Date: Tuesday, September 17, 2024

Time: 12:00 - 2:00 PM

Location: Woodland Community College, 2300 E. Gibson Road, Woodland, CA 95776

The installation of the new ballot drop box on the Woodland Community College campus will provide students, faculty, staff, and community members with a secure and convenient location to submit their ballots for all local, state, and federal elections. This permanent ballot drop box is part of Yolo County’s continued effort to make voting more accessible and convenient for all eligible voters in the area.

The unveiling event will feature representatives from Yolo County Elections, Woodland Community College, and the League of Women Voters, who will discuss the importance of voter participation and answer questions related to the voting process. Attendees will also have the opportunity to register to vote or update their voter registration status on-site, ensuring that everyone has the ability to make their voice heard in upcoming elections.

"This ballot drop box represents our commitment to civic engagement and expanding voting access. By installing it at Woodland Community College, we're making it easier for young people and community members to participate in elections to make their voices heard," said Dr. Lizette Navarette, President of Woodland Community College. "Our collaboration with YoloCountyElections and the League of Women Voters underscores our joint commitment to empowering voters."

“Through our continued partnership with Woodland Community College (WCC) and the League we are excited to cohost our upcoming event on National Voter Registration Day at WCC. We look forward to providing voter registration opportunities and to officially open our new Ballot Drop Box – at a convenient and secure location for voters at WCC,” says Jesse Salinas, Yolo County Registrar of Voters.

The League of Women Voters will also have volunteers on-site during the event, providing non-partisan voter information and helping to answer questions about the election process, voting rights, and more.

“We value our partnership with Woodland Community College and the Elections Office in encouraging young people to vote, especially on National Voter Registration Day,” said Woodland League of Women Voters President Lorna Carriveau. “Voting is a powerful way for their voices to be heard.”

Why this is important:

  • Increased Access: With the addition of this new ballot drop box, Woodland Community College students and the broader community will have greater access to secure, 24/7 ballot drop-off, making it easier to participate in elections.
  • Encouraging Youth Participation: Woodland Community College, home to many first-time voters, is an ideal location for promoting voter education and participation.
  • Civic Engagement: The voter registration drive, in collaboration with the League of Women Voters, will focus on registering new voters and encouraging active participation in the democratic process.

All community members are invited to attend this important event, participate in the voter registration drive, and celebrate the unveiling of this new resource.
